I moved oregon in 2012 to make Pinot Noir - pretty much the same reason all winemakers moved here I would suspect. In 2015 I made my first Pinot Noir - it wasn’t great. I made some for another winery for a few years and made wines that I am proud of. This wine is a showcase for all I have learned about Pinot Noir in six years. If all goes according to plan I will keep learning how to make pinot Noir until the vintage I retire.

2021 was a beaUTIFUL GROWING season - with two extraordinary heat events. Young, unirrigated vineyards had a very difficult time withstanding those temperatures, but older vines with their deep roots managed to thrive. Such was the case at Rainsong vineyard. These vines were planted in 1985 by the fix family who still farm this lovely site today. Fruit arrived in their old pickup truck and trailer the last week of september looking as beautiful as ever.

This wine was aged in neutral oak barrels for 22 months, bottled, and aged for six months further. The resulting wine shows vibrant aromas of cherry compote, morels, and fresh baked cookies. The palate shows off a broad velvety texture, firm tannin, flavors of fig newtons (so cool), and cherry pie.

I’ve never had lamb meatloaf, but I imagine it to be amazing. Maybe it could have a tomato and mint glaze (I’m just dreaming here). Nonetheless, If I ever make that dish I am totally pairing this wine with it.
